Question about using firefox with jaws

I'm running a windows XP computer with internet explorer 8 and jaws 9. I'm finding that some websites seem to require the firefox because they don't work with IE8.
Can I install firefox and will it work with jaws?
How much would it interfere with MSN and IE8?
If anyone uses this; can you please help?

hi.

yes you can install firefox. it works really good with jaws, and it will not mess with I E as they are both individual programmes, so you can choose what ones you want to use when you want to use it

You should be fine installing Firefox. It's not going to interfere with other programs on your computer. Remember you can jump to the address bar with either f6 or control L. Control O will ask you to open a file.

Thanks. I have never used that program before, but I've heard of it. I thought most sites worked with IE, but I'm finding out that some require firefox instead.

I always use ALT+D to access the addresss bar. Yes, most sites now are moving over to firefox. You should be fine with it, and if you need captcha solving capibilities, you can always get web vissum as a plugin.

Yes. Firefox works perfectly fine with jaws. I haven't got it set as my default browser, but I know people who do. I love the wbvissam plug in because i can do mostof the capture codes on websites. I think internet explorer 8 works fine with jaws and windows vista, but not sure about xp. By the way, you do have to install quick time if you want to play sounds in web pages, like the zone bbs sounds and the clicking sounds of web vissam, but I could send it to you if you like as it's kind of hard to find to download.

Hi,

I use Firefox with Jaws and it works nicely. I'd say get Quicktime Alternative, smaller than Quicktime, and it is easy enough to find. I use NoScript another addon for Firefox, kinda hard to cinfigure, but it does its job. I also use MozBackup to backup all firefox settings and addons. As for IE8 and XP, unsure, its actually really iffy. If it works, then you're fine, if it doesn't then you're screwed. Even if you uninstall it and move back to IE7, the computer and IE may not work the way you're used to in the past. Thank you MS for forcing IE8 as an upgrade.

Thanks for the advice. I do have quicktime all ready installed on my computer. Yes, IE8 does work with XP and so do the ad-ons for it, at least mine did until yesterday. Thanks again.

I'm a firefox user myself, and really hate having to use IE. I won't unless it's needed for a program or to access something that firefox can't read, which is rare

i use firefox too and it works with jaws. I only have some problems with forms since the last firefox update (version 3.5). Does anyone know anything about that?

To post 10,

What version of Firefox are you using? What version of Jaws are you using? Can you be more specific when it comes to what problems you're having with forms mode?

i use jaws 10 but i have tried it with jaws 9 to. I use firefox 3.5. When i try to change to form mode the cursor jumps to another place on the website. But i don't know why.

To Post 12,

I've seen this myself, on sime sites. The only solution I've found it to use the e navigation key, not the f navigation key. On some sites, it jumps to different links, not the form, hth.

Sometimes if I have more than 1 tab opened, jaws gets confused and says the same name for each tab I go to. I have to alt tab back to it so it reads correctly.

I only use firefox when I have to, but haven't had any problems so far.
